Sports
The sports program is designed to be an aid and tool in the development and growth of the participants. The YMCA is not a building, athletic fields or just sports. The YMCA is not just a sports association; however, the YMCA does use sports as one of its programs to foster physical, mental and spiritual growth. The attainments of exceptional athletic skills and the winning of games, though important, are secondary-the molding of future men and women is the goal.
The YMCA of Abilene provides sports programs that:
-Stress sportsmanship, fair play and teamwork -Emphasize the values of respect, responsibility, caring, honesty, effort and participation -Keep winning in perspective-child first, sport second -Enable all participants to play in every game -Include family involvement -Provide coaches, officials and parent orientations -Emphasize safety and age-appropriate development -Utilize volunteer leadership -Available to all segments of the community -To support and strengthen the family unit -To help children to develop to their fullest potential -To deliver programs in a positive YMCA environment of safety, support and care -To help each child have fun -To make "Everyone a Winner" -Welcome all participants regardless of race, sex, ethnicity or financial status Financial assistance for membership is available to all who qualify

Swimming/Aquatics- Team Tidal WaveOur club is a USS year round competitive swim team offering high quality professional coaching and technique instruction for all ages and abilities. The goal of our team is to provide every member an opportunity to improve swimming skills and achieve success at his or her level of ability, from novice to international competitor.
All of our coaches are here to teach the skills of swimming and sportsmanship. They provide assurances that the time children spend in swimming will be quality time.
The Abilene YMCA Tidal Wave, a non profit club, is run by the YMCA of Abilene. All members are welcome and encouraged to be involved in team activities and fund-raisers.
We are constantly growing and training young swimmers to maintain a well rounded competitive swim team. Thank you for joining us. We are looking forward to meeting you. Please feel free to ask a coach any question you may have.
