Confidence in the Water
Swimming is a life skill as well as great exercise and a challenging sport. The YMCA of Abilene offers swim lessons for all ages, Safety Around Water classes and more. Swim year-round in one of our two heated, indoor pools and swim with the folks that created group swim lessons!
Register at either YMCA location. Lessons are held at the Redbud YMCA location.
Group Swim Lessons
We serve the community as a resource in aquatic education and water safety through student-centered swim instruction. Children between the ages of 6 months and 12 years old learn and practice new swim skills that last a lifetime. Swimmers in our program become more comfortable and secure around water as we emphaize water safety and stroke development.
Private Swim Lessons
Private & Semi-Private "Buddy" Swim Lessons will provide participants with individual instruction from one of our swim instructors. Private Lessons can make a difference in improving swim ability and technique and give focused and specific instrcution at an individuals own pace. Instructors encourage participants to practice skills learned through our program to help improve swimming ability and strength in the water.
Pool Parties and Facility Rentals
The Y is a great place to have your next birthday party or family gathering!
Swim Stroke Clinic
Our Stroke Clinics are an excellent program for all swimmers. We offer clinics for intermediate and advanced swimmers interested in refining stroke techniques. The primary focus will be stroke technique, starts, turns, rules of competition and good sportsman ship. Stroke Clinic Classes will be offered in the summer to help each swimmer master technique in each competitive stroke.
Must have passed swim lesson level 4, must know breastroke, front & back crawl.
Prices are per session, we will have 3 sessions this summer. All groups must meet a minimum participant level of 5 participants each group to have a class. Instructor will be Kelly McNamee, AISD High School & Cooper High School Swim Team Coach.

Private Swim Coaching Lessons
Private Coaching Lessons for participants looking for one on one personal instruction from a swim coach. Private Lessons can make a difference in improving swimming ability and technique and give focused and specific instruction at an individual’s own pace. AVAILABLE FOR AGES 5 AND UP.
COMPLETE THE REQUEST FORM and a swim coach will contact you within 3 business days to discuss your training plan and recommendations. Please note lessons may take up to 2 weeks to commence during our busy summer season.

Summer Swim Camp
5 Weeks of Swimming at the Y!
Our swim camp is a program for all advanced swimmers ages 12-18. The camp is to help get the swimmer ready to join a swim team. Camp offers dryland, endurance, stroke techniques, turns and the rules of competition.
Must know all swim strokes.
Instructor will be Kelly McNamee, AISD High School & Cooper High School Swim Team Coach.
5 Week Camp
June 11th-July 13th Monday-Thursday
Limit 40 participants
Cost: Members $100 Non-Members $200
Min. 5 participants for camp. Max 40 participants.
Safety Around Water
At the YMCA of Abilene, we know that swimming is a life skill every child must learn to stay safe, secure and enjoy the water. In 2017, Texas had 75 fatal drownings and in 2018 already 50 fatal drownings and multiple non-fatal drownings.
Safety Around Water is an introductory swim program for youth ages 5–12 years-old. Children will enjoy water safety education and character development lessons in a safe, structured environment.
YMCA swim instructors will instill a love of the water while helping kids and parents build safety skills and knowledge.
Safety Around Water Course will be offered free of charge to the community. 30 participants will be in the water that are between the ages of 5-12. Adults & Family members will also participate on deck as they learn safety topics but they will not be in the water with instructors.
The program is free, open to the public and will be offered at YMCA of Abilene-Redbud location Saturday July 28, 2018 from 4-5pm. We invite you to pre-register your child today. Pre-registration ends Thursday July 26th. First 30 participants will be able to be in the water.
Water Safety Course 4-5pm
Free Family Swim 5-6pm for participants enrolled in the Safety Around Water Program.
